Compline

Last night I had pre-wedding marathon weekend gitters. Woke up at 3:00 am and didn't get a lot of sleep. Today after two weddings, three total for the weekend, I pulled out the Book of Common Prayer and really wanted to pray Compline. It's the perfect ending to a full, very full weekend. Compline is really the last prayers of the night. These are a few highlights:

The Lord Almighty grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end. Amen

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen

The BCP is a wonderful book indeed--there's a prayer for just about every need in there. Three weddings in a weekend is huge. After my verger stint in B'more I served as a wedding coordinator (paid, woohoo!) at my church in NC. Weddings are high stress events, for sure, with all the miscellaneous details and family dynamics that are involved. Hope you can breathe now!
